The invention presents a method for the production of biopropane from waste cooking oils (WCO). In particular, it consists of a new integrated process composed of a thermochemical stage of saponification of WCO to produce carboxylic acids which are pyrolyzed, and a biotechnological stage of glycerol processing for the generation of propanedioic acid as a precursor. In this manner, the process allows maximizing the production of biopropane using residual lipids as feedstock.
Uses
Oil processing, such as waste frying oil or other lipid sources, for the production of biopropane, biopropane/biobutane.
Benefits
It integrates thermochemical and biotechnological processes to maximize the yield of propane feedstock.
It favors the production of light olefins such as propane, butane, and pentane, among others, and their respective alkenes, components present in liquefied gas.
It is a production process with a higher yield than the current thermochemical methods of biopropane production.
